Download Norton Virus Updates 

 

1.)  Click this link:  http://www.systemsby.com/virus.htm 

 

2.)  On the Systems By... Anti-Virus Updates Page 

     (Under Anti-Virus Updates) 

        Click the Tested Norton Link (goto step 4)  

  or 

        Click the Norton link (goto step 3) 

 

3.)   On the Symantec Page (Download Virus Definitions) 

        Click the [Download Updates] button 

      On the Download Page   

        Click the Filename Link:   yyyymmdd-005-i32.exe  

          (yyyy=year, mm=month, dd=day;  ex:20030218-005-i32.exe) 

 

4.)  If asked: Save program to disk 

        In the Save As window 

          Save in:  Desktop  or   (C:\Temp  or  C:\Windows\Temp) 

            (or any other existing folder on the computer) 

          Click [Save] button 

 

        Wait for the download to complete........

Install NAV Update 

 

1.)   If Internet Explorer shows Download Complete Window 

        Click the [Open] Button  

  or 

      From the Desktop (or the folder where you saved above) 

         Double Click the downloaded file:   yyyymmdd-000-i32.exe 

 

2.)   SARC Updater  --  Do you want to update...:  Click [Yes] 

 

         Wait for update to complete........... short pause.......... 

 

3.)   SARC Updater  --  ...Found & Updated...:  Click [OK] 

          (if an error occurs, email or call for support) 

 

Start NAV to verify Virus Definition Date. 

Delete downloaded update file from Desktop. 

Scan local drives as needed.

 Start NAV and Scan local drives. 

 Someone with Admin rights should also scan the server drives.

Double Click Norton Anti-Virus icon on the Desktop or in the System Tray. 

In Norton Anti-Virus 

   Click Scan for Viruses 

   Double Click Scan Drives 

     Select Drive Letters to Scan

Starting AntiVir & Scanning

 

1.)  Right Click the AntiVir Icon in the System Tray 

2.)  Select "Start AntiVir Main Program" 

3.)  The window will show all your Drives, Check those you wish to Scan for Virii 

                -Your System Drive (usually 'C:') is the most important to include, as well as                   other Hard Drives, CD, DVD and other removable drives are usually          

                 excluded, unless you suspect a virus is present on one of them 

4.)  Under the "Scan" Menu, Select "Start Scan" ...it will scan until finished (prompting             whenever a Virus is found)

Scanning for Spyware - in Spybot 

 

1.) Click [Check for Problems] button                                 - If not available click Search & Destroy in side menu

2.) Uncheck any items you may want/need to keep         - Unless you download music you                                                                                                      shouldn't have any 

       (such as "Wild Tangent" used in some P2P programs)
